A Softer Autumn: Blush and Cream
This enchanting setup is by Vanessa Roach of Fenceposts Photography. She is booking mini-sessions now for THIS EXACT SCENE, so if you’re in Katy or Houston, check out www.FencepostsPhotography.com!
This setting is so good that I want to use it for a teaching moment for my fellow visual nerds!
When creating any scene, even a tablescape or a gift basket, you have three ingredients to work with: color, line, and texture.
You want your scene to be visually interesting, which is done by creating contrast with at least one of the above ingredients. But you also need at least one ingredient to be cohesive (same-same) to make it visually restful.
This combination of visually interesting and visually restful is what catches the eye, and holds it.
Vanessa created so much wonderful contrast here in line and texture - the straight lines of the palm fronds against the fluffy dried flowers, the sharp angles of the wooden backdrop against the graceful curves of the loveseat, the rough woven rugs (in the top picture) against the smooth velvet.
And for her cohesive element, Vanessa chose color. Her dominant color, blush pink, is repeated again and again. Her accent colors, off-white and green, are also repeated. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to find any color that appears only once! That’s harmony. And every single one of these colors belongs to the Soft Autumn color palette, meaning that they all look great together.
